Ministers of Religion: Senior religious leaders now have a clearer pathway under the Special Residence Requirement

The key benefit: Time spent overseas for eligible work may still count toward your citizenship residency requirements

How does this work?

Standard rule (before this change)

Most applicants must:

• Live in Australia for a required period
• Spend no more than 12 months outside Australia in 4 years
• Spend no more than 90 days outside Australia in the last 12 months

For many professionals, this was difficult to maintain.
