The Working Holiday Maker Program

In addition to changes to the Visa Application Charges (VAC) as a result of the 2017-2018 budget, the Department of Immigration and Border Protection has announced that VAC for Working Holiday Maker will be raised to $440 from 1 July 2017.

What is the Working Holiday Maker Program?

Under the program, applicants aged 18 to 30, from eligible countries, are allowed to work in Australia during their holidays. There are two streams in the Working Holiday Maker program: Working Holiday (subclass 417) and Work and Holiday (subclass 462).

Working Holiday visa (subclass 417)

Applicants from eligible countries are allowed to holiday and work in Australia for up to 1 year.

Applicants are allowed to work for six months with one employer.

Eligible Countries:

Belgium, Canada, Republic of Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong SAR, Republic of Ireland, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Taiwan, United Kingdom.

Work and Holiday visa (subclass 462)

Applicants from eligible countries are allowed to holiday and work in Australia for up to 1 year. Applicants are allowed to work for six months with one employer.

Eligible Countries:

Argentina, Bangladesh, Chile, China, Hungary, Indonesia, Israel, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Poland, Portugal, San Marino, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Thailand, Turkey, United States of America, Uruguay, Vietnam
