Countdown to Christmas begins!

The festive season which generally runs for just under two weeks in December is finally here and it’s time for us to celebrate our culture, diversity and hard work as well as set goals for the New Year!

Australia, being a proud and strong multicultural society, brings one of the most amazing festive celebrations throughout the country. Prospective migrants often wonder what they are likely to experience during this season in Australia. This is one country where celebrations and historical traditions become special due to a unique blend of each culture with a modern society.

The early summer in Australia certainly has an impact on the way Australians celebrate Christmas on 25 December, which makes it a fun filled experience for adults as well as children during their school holidays.

In the weeks leading up to Christmas, people decorate their houses, exchange greetings, sing Christmas carols, and indulge in numerous events and activities organised for the public to mark this occasion. The streets have one of world’s best Christmas light displays as well as lit up Christmas trees both in and outside people’s houses. Besides coming together for dinner and lunches, many Australians love to spend Christmas outdoors with their family and friends like going to beaches or camping grounds over the holiday period. Carols by Candlelight and New Year fireworks seen across the iconic Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House on the night of 31 December are two of the most spectacular events among other community events that draw massive gatherings and are broadcasted by media globally.

The Christmas and New Year season is also a favourite time for sports fans. The 26 December is the opening day of the 'Boxing Day Test' between the Australian Cricket Team and other national teams touring Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Boxing Day Sales is Australia's most sought after shopping day with incredible sales that are worth waiting all year round for. It also marks the start of one of the world's most prestigious ocean races, the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race from Sydney Harbour.

Many workplaces close down or run on limited staff during this period in order to enjoy the festivities. Australia draws a number of tourists from various countries during this season. This is also an ideal time to plan and explore opportunities by those who are wishing to migrate in the New Year. So have you made the big move yet? It’s time to call Australia home and be a part of an amazing culture and prosperous nation. SCA Connect can walk you through multiple avenues available to achieve your migration goal.
