Australian Student Visa Program changes

australian student visa

On 26th August, the Government announced a package of measures to the Australian Student Visa Program to support the integrity of the international education system.

The Government has closed a loophole that allows education providers to shift International students who have been in Australia for less than six months from genuine study to an arrangement designed to facilitate access to work in Australia.

The Government will increase the amount of savings international students will need in order to get a student visa. From 1 October 2023, international students will need to show evidence of $24505 in savings, a 17% increase on current levels.

The change aims to mitigate the cost of living increase and ensure student visa holders can support themselves.
