Exploring the Subclass 407 Training Visa: Enhancing Skills Through Workplace Training

subclass 407 visa

The Subclass 407 training visa enables individuals to engage in workplace-based training aimed at enhancing their skills relevant to their job, field of study, expertise, or professional development program. This visa offers three different training streams.

1. Occupational Training Required for Registration

This stream mandates workplace-based training necessary for obtaining occupational registration, membership, or licensing. Such credentials are essential for employment in Australia or the applicant's home country.

2. Occupational Training to Improve Skills in an Eligible Occupation

This stream focuses on structured workplace-based training programs tailored to the specific needs of the nominee. It targets occupations listed on the eligible occupations list and requires applicants to have recent and suitable prior experience equivalent to at least 12 months of full-time work in the past 24 months.

3. Occupational Training for Capacity Building Overseas

This stream includes:

  • Training for overseas qualifications, involving structured workplace-based training in Australia for up to 6 months. It is intended for students enrolled in foreign educational institutions who need practical training, research, or observation to complete their qualifications.

  • Government-supported training, which must have support from either an Australian government agency at national or state/territory level, or from the government of the nominee's home country at national, state/territory, or provincial level. The training should be specifically tailored to the nominee's training needs.

  • Professional Development.

This involves face-to-face classroom or similar environment teaching in Australia, designed for overseas employers to send their managerial or professional staff for professional development purposes.
