Introducing the Pacific Engagement Visa

The Australian Government announced the Pacific Engagement Visa (PEV) in 2022, which aims to increase permanent migration from the Pacific region to Australia and promote a stronger Pacific community. The visa is set to launch in July 2023 and will provide an opportunity for up to 3,000 people from Pacific countries and Timor-Leste to migrate to Australia as permanent residents each year.

The allocation of visas will be determined by an annual ballot process across eligible countries. Successful candidates will be invited to apply for permanent residence provided they have secured a written employment agreement in Australia and satisfy other migration requirements.

The Australian Government is currently consulting with Pacific countries and Timor-Leste to gauge their interest in participating in the program. Additional details about the visa program will be announced ahead of its launch.
