NEW UPDATE: Parent Visa Applications Are Changing

From 22 April 2026, the Migration (Arrangements for Parent Visa Applications) Instrument 2026 (LIN 26/005) introduces changes to how some Parent visa applications are submitted. It does not change who can apply or the visa requirements, it changes how you submit your application.
What You Need to Know:
Some Parent visas can now be lodged online.
This includes:
• Parent (Migrant) (Class AX)
• Aged Parent (Residence) (Class BP)
• Contributory Parent (Migrant) (Class CA)
• Contributory Aged Parent (Residence) (Class DG)
If you are applying for one of these visas, you will usually be able to submit your application through ImmiAccount, instead of sending documents by post. This makes the process simpler and avoids delays with a courier or mail.
Some visas are still paper only. These include Contributory Parent (Temporary) (Class UT) and Contributory Aged Parent (Temporary) (Class UU). These must still be sent by post or courier to the Department. So it’s important not to assume everything is online.
One Important Timing Rule:
If your application was sent before 22 April 2026, but received after that date, it will still be processed under the old rules. This means when you send your application matters, not just when it arrives.
In simple terms:
• Some Parent visa applications are now easier to lodge
• You may avoid delays from posting documents
• But you must still use the correct method for your visa
Choosing the wrong lodgement method can cause issues or delays. This is a small change, but it can have a real impact if not handled properly.
