For a Subclass 482 visa, the primary applicant is required to meet the English requirement through one of three ways:

1. Passport Exemption – Applicant holds a passport from the UK, Ireland, USA, Canada or New Zealand.

2. Education in English – Applicant completed at least 5 years of full-time study in a secondary and/or higher education institution where instruction was delivered in English.

3. English Language Test – The required scores and acceptable tests were updated on 13 September 2025 and are summarised below.

The required English marks for the 482 Skills in Demand Visa were updated in September. A primary applicant that sat an English test on or after the 13th of September 2025 (the commencement date) must now attain at least the following minimum scores:

N.B. – a C1 Advanced test (previously known as CAE) sat after this date will no longer be accepted.

Tests that offer the “One Skill Retake” (OSR) option are now also permitted where the test was sat on or after the commencement date.

What if I sat my test before the 13th of September 2025?

An applicant that sat an English test before the commencement date must attain at least the prior required test scores, shown in the table below:

The test will be valid for 3 years from the sitting date.

N.B.– A CELPIP General, LANGUAGECERT Academic or MET test sat prior to the commencement date will not be accepted for the 482 visa.
