Unrestricted work rights for student visa holders extended

The work restrictions for student visas are temporarily relaxed to address workforce shortages currently being experienced in Australia.

The Government has announced that the relaxation of the work restrictions for student visa holders will be extended until 30 June 2023.

Both primary and secondary student visa holders are able to work more than 40 hours per fortnight in any sector of the economy and can work prior to the commencement of their course.

Students must still:

  • maintain their course enrolment,

  • ensure satisfactory course attendance, and

  • ensure satisfactory course progress.

Student visa holders who cancel their enrolment and stop attending classes, or fail to meet satisfactory course progress, may be in breach of their visa conditions.
