Fees due to increase for Visas and Citizenship Applications
Historically speaking 1 July brings many changes in the world of immigration including a fee increase across visa as well as citizenship applications. Whilst the cost of visas changes from time to time, generally all visas will be subject to increase in fees from 1 July.
The cost of a visa application is dependent on the date the application is lodged. Therefore, if you are considering applying for an Australian visa or Citizenship under the current price structure set out by the Department of Home Affairs, it is advisable to lodge your application prior to 1 July.
Generally, visa applications fees are increased in accordance with CPI (Consumer Price Index). However, certain visa subclasses such as partner or parent visas have seen a significant increase in previous years, well above the CPI.
Getting your application ready:
If you are planning to submit your visa application prior to 1 July it is important to ensure that you have obtained or able to obtain the documents required to submit at the time of application. Whilst limited number of documents can be provided post lodgement, it is always advisable to submit fully documented and decision ready applications.
The Department of Home Affairs provides a generic checklist for all visa subclasses. However, it is important to note that your personal circumstances may require you to provide additional documents to evidence any claims listed on the application. Where an application is particularly complex, it is advisable to seek advice from a Registered Migration to ensure that your application has the best chance of success.
