Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189)
The Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189) is a points-tested permanent residence visa for skilled workers who aren't sponsored by an employer, a family member, or a state or territory. It's one of the few permanent residency pathways that rests entirely on your own skills and attributes, which makes it attractive and competitive. You'll need an occupation on the relevant skilled list, a suitable skills assessment, and at least competent English, and you'll need to be invited to apply after submitting an Expression of Interest through SkillSelect. Invitations are issued by ranking, so your points score matters a great deal; a strong application is one that maximises every point you're genuinely entitled to. We assess your points position honestly before you invest in the process — if the numbers don't support a realistic chance of invitation, we'll tell you, and we'll talk through alternatives.
