Prospective Marriage Visa (Subclass 300)
The Prospective Marriage visa (subclass 300) lets the fiancé of an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen travel to Australia to marry their intended partner. It's a temporary visa that gives you a window, generally up to nine months, in which to marry, after which you can apply for a Partner visa to remain permanently. The Department needs to be satisfied that you genuinely intend to marry and that you've met your partner in person as adults. You'll also need to show your relationship is genuine and meet health and character requirements. Because the 300 is the first step on a longer partner pathway, it's worth planning the whole journey, not just this visa, from the outset.
