Partner Migration - Two-stage Process

The process for obtaining a partner visa to migrate to Australia involves two stages:

  1. Temporary stage: The first stage is the temporary stage, during which the applicant applies for and is granted a temporary partner visa. This visa allows the applicant to live, work, and study in Australia while the permanent partner visa application is being processed.

  2. Permanent stage: The second stage is the permanent stage, during which the applicant and sponsor will be required to submit additional evidence their relationship remains genuine and ongoing. This evidence can be submitted two years after the initial visa application has been lodged. This visa allows the holder to live and work in Australia indefinitely.

In certain circumstances, the 2 year waiting period for a decision on the permanent residency stage is not required. If you are in a relationship with an Australian citizen or permanent resident and want to understand your visa options, contact one of our experienced Registered Migration Agents today to arrange a consultation.
